How To Keep A Food Journal : Weight Loss Goals

Food journaling is a great tool for weight loss and for discovering your eating habits. Write down everything you ate during the day in a food diary. Study any patterns that emerge from your food journal and identify where you may be able to make some changes to help you achieve your weight loss goals. Sometimes we don’t realize how much food we ate and all those extra calories we consumed.

By writing down what you ate during the day for a week, you can have a clearer picture of your eating habits. Then you can modify your eating patterns toward healthier and leaner eating. Devote some time each day to record what you have eaten and how much (portion size), your hunger level before and after eating. Writing down how you feel before and after your meals can assist you in identifying your feelings toward eating and help you discover any emotions and behaviors that trigger overeating.

In addition, keeping a food diary will keep you accountable and help you stayed focused on your weight loss goals. Sometimes, when we have to write down what we’ve eaten, we will think twice and choose more carefully before we eat something. You don’t have to show the journal to anyone, but it is a great tool for discovering the hidden reasons why you overeat or realize some extra food you are eating.
