By consuming more salt - preferably marine or Himalayan - and integrating it into your diet, you will increase the amount of fluid retained in your body and thus increase your blood pressure. It is recommended to eat salty foods from the morning to breakfast (salted butter, cheese). This diet is obviously not recommended for pregnant women, people suffering from heart failure and those suffering from kidney failure.

To supplement your daily salt intake, here is the simple recipe for a drink to prepare at home.

Ingredients:
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • 1 large glass of water

Preparation:

Mix both ingredients and drink in the morning preferably; It is important to note that this drink acts very well on blood pressure for a short time but will not be able to treat it over the long term.

In addition to salt intake, you can also use some tricks of everyday life:

- Drink to the max! Do not skimp on the amount of fluids (unsweetened) to consume daily, ideal in case of hypotension being 3 liters per day. Whether it's water, fresh fruit juice, green teas or herbal teas, do not hesitate to drink without moderation. The amount of fluid ingested acts directly on the blood pressure, the more important it is the higher the blood pressure.

- It goes without saying that the consumption of alcohol is to be avoided because it alters the nerves useful to the contraction of the blood vessels when the person stands. It can also unbalance the brain stem and cerebellum and slow down cardiac performance.

- Eat more often but in small quantities! As mentioned before, hypotension may occur during the digestion process during the 2 hours following the meal. It is therefore not recommended to eat hearty meals because this may cause a concentration of blood in the digestive tract. Eat less but more often by spacing your meals during the day.

- Drink coffee! Contrary to preconceived notions, caffeine has benefits if you consume it in moderation. For a short time, a cup of coffee can act as a stimulant on receptors that control blood pressure. However, in case of excessive consumption, the receptors are regulated negatively and the coffee will no longer have any effect. It is recommended that people with heart problems consume it sparingly because it is harmful to the heartbeat. As for pregnant women, they are advised to limit their intake to two cups per day.

When should I consult doctor?

Most often, periods of hypotension do not necessarily require medical intervention, however if they persist and the level of pressure remains low, it is advisable to consult a doctor.

In case of hemorrhage or septicemia, a case of severe hypotension may occur. It is therefore imperative to use emergency medical care.
