You Should Never Do This During Your Period

For many women, the period of menstruation is perceived as a monthly torment, which they can not avoid. Between insomnia, headaches, menstrual cramps or digestive disorders, we can not blame them! To better live this period, here are the things to avoid!

1 - Skipping meals:

Skipping meals, is strongly discouraged in normal time and is even more during menstruation. Indeed, normal bleeding brings with them a loss of iron, which becomes more important in case of abundant rules.

This loss of iron causes a deficiency in this mineral which can cause anemia, the symptoms of which are fatigue, shortness of breath, and a pale complexion among others.

It is therefore important to eat well, during the menstruation, to compensate for the deficiencies caused by this period. Promote natural foods rich in nutrients and especially iron such as meats, seeds and legumes.

2 - Do not practice sports:

Many women associate the period of menstruation with a phase of inactivity. They decrease their physical activity and stop the sport! Error ! Doing sports during menstruation is not advisable, quite the contrary. Unless you have cramps that stop you and prevent you from doing the most basic tasks, exercising regularly is strongly recommended.

Recall that sport is excellent for health because it reduces the risk of diabetes, obesity, cardiovascular disease and hypertension. But did you know that sports can also reduce menstrual disorders? Indeed, the sport makes it possible to regularize the cycle and to calm the menstrual pains when they are not very strong!

3 - Having unprotected intercourse:

From a medical point of view, having intercourse during menstruation does not represent a contraindication. Indeed, the woman's reproductive system does not experience any physiological changes during this period which could prevent intercourse.

However, it should be borne in mind that the risk of contracting transmitted venereal diseases are much higher during this period. Indeed, blood can promote contamination, if one partner is carrying infections. It is therefore important to protect yourself during intercourse, using a condom. Protection can prevent the transmission of diseases, but also unwanted pregnancies.

And yes, making love during menstruation does not rule out the possibility of pregnancy when no means of contraception is used. In some women, a disturbed menstrual cycle can cause the ovulation period to overlap and the end of the period to overlap!

4 - Eating junk food:

In addition to increasing the risk of obesity and other dangerous diseases, poor diet can also cause digestive problems such as bloating or diarrhea. And knowing that these two digestive problems are very common in women during menstruation eating unhealthy foods, could only accentuate them!

It is therefore advisable to ban processed, high-calorie and low-nutrient products and to focus on everything that is natural to fill up with vitamins and minerals.

Women also have to limit their salt intake during this period because it promotes water retention. Limited consumption of coffee and tea is also recommended, as these products may increase irritability, observed in some women during menstruation.

5 - Do not sleep:

Our body needs to sleep enough, to rest, especially during the periods when it knows different changes! However, many women are prone to episodes of insomnia during their periods. According to statistics from the National Sleep Foundation in the United States, 23% of women said they had restless sleep during the week before menstruation, while 30% said they had the same problem during menstruation.

Insomnia associated with menstruation, may have various causes, including, increased body temperature related to the menstrual cycle, anxiety and depression, digestive disorders or even pain. This sleep disorder is also the result of a sharp drop in the progesterone level. The decrease of this hormone to the soporific effects, can thus cause insomnia.

So, taking the necessary steps to enjoy a good night's sleep, even when circumstances do not allow it, is essential. Put all the chances on your side, avoiding to consume exciting like the tea and coffee, prefer rather the relaxing tisanes and avoid the meals too heavy in the evening.
