 Get Rid of Houseflies

They may be tiny, the fruit flies can be particularly insistent and lead us the hard life especially in summer! These little critters who invite themselves into our bowls of fruit, as soon as a food loses its freshness, are not however invincible! Here are 6 tips to get rid of it!

Fruit flies are insects belonging to the family Tephritidae. Tiny flies with wings spotted with black. These are attracted by the ripe fruit on which they like to breed. But where do they come from?

These insects often come to you from the market or from the grocer with the fruits you buy. They sit comfortably on your fruit and lay eggs there. In summer, on the other hand, they can come from outside.

Thus, a fruit fly invasion is not necessarily a matter of hygiene, because they do not attack dirt or food, but rather ripe fruit. They particularly like fermentation materials to deposit their eggs.

It is certainly difficult to get rid of these insects, but it is not impossible.

How to get rid of fruit flies?

There are several natural ways to eliminate these insects from your kitchen and the majority of the ingredients you will need for it is in your home.

Here are 6 practical tips:

1 - The red wine:

Yes it is not only you who appreciate this beverage, but the fruit flies too! The red wine can thus be used to trap these insects. All you have to do is fill a bowl of red wine and water that you will cover with food film. Make several holes with a toothpick and place it in places where you see fruit flies. The latter will enter through these small holes but will not be able to stand out.

2 - The cider vinegar:

Apple cider vinegar is also a solution to try to get rid of fruit flies. Indeed, thanks to its fruity smell, this ingredient attracts these insects. You can proceed in the same way as for red wine, either fill a bowl and cover it with food film, then make holes there.

3 - The leftover fruit:

To avoid turning around the pot, use directly what attracts these insects to trap it: fruits! Place the leftover fruit in a bowl and cover with plastic film, make holes and it's done!

4 - Milk, pepper and sugar:

Here is a recipe that these insects love and that will not fail to attract them. Heat two cups of milk, then add 8 tablespoons of sugar and 4 tablespoons of pepper. Simmer for 10 minutes, then pour the mixture into a shallow dish. Place it in your kitchen and these insects will soon come and get trapped!

5 - The essential oil of lemon / lemongrass:

Insects in general can not stand the smell of lemon! Fill a spray bottle with two cups of water and 10 to 15 drops of lemon or lemongrass essential oil. Spray this mixture into the kitchen or places where you see fruit flies.

6 - The funnel:

This is a gentler way to get rid of fruit flies because it will trap them without drowning them.

To achieve this you will need a transparent container, a piece of ripe banana, paper and glue. Start by putting the piece of banana in the container, then make a cone with your paper and make sure that the tip is very small, so that the flies enter but can not get out. Use glue to make the funnel "closed".
