 Sleep On Your Left Side

Sleep is essential to our body, because this moment of respite allows it to recharge its batteries in order to be able to start a new day. But what position should we adopt to sleep better and enjoy other health benefits? Answer below.

Getting enough sleep is essential to the functioning of our body. An ideal 8-night sleep allows you to rest and relax after a long day and also helps to replenish your energy for the next day. But not only that, a good night's sleep also helps reduce stress, improve mood, prevent weight gain and preserve the skin and prevent premature aging.

Sleep positions can also influence our state of health. Each of us chooses a precise position to sleep, whether on the back, the side or on the belly, the important thing is to find one's ease. But we must know that certain positions are to be preferred while others must be avoided because they can harm our health.

For example, sleeping on the abdomen is strongly discouraged because it exerts pressure on the cervical vertebrae, which can cause lumbar pain and impair breathing.

Sleeping on the right side is also to be avoided, as this can cause heartburn, promote gastric reflux as well as numbness. This position is to be avoided especially for pregnant women because it causes a decrease in blood flow to the uterus which can increase the risk of death at birth. According to a study published in the Journal of Medicine, the risk of death at birth is 3.93 / 1000 for women sleeping on the back or right flank, while it is not 1.96 / 1000 for women who prefer Sleep on the left side.

It is to say that this last position is much more beneficial than the others, and this not only for pregnant women. Indeed, according to health experts, adopting this position offers many benefits, including:

Improves digestion:

The stomach and pancreas are two organs that play an important role in digestion and are both located in the left flank. Thus, when one sleeps on the side, their natural position is respected, and consequently their proper functioning is assured. In other words, the stomach can digest food gradually and correctly, while the pancreas will be able to better secrete the enzymes needed for proper digestion.

Let's also remember that sleeping on the right side promotes gastric reflux and heartburn, so always opt for the left flank.

Ensures the proper functioning of the lymphatic system:
The lymphatic system is composed of various organs such as the spleen, tonsils and lymphatic vessels in which the lymph circulates. The latter is in the form of a transparent liquid, the movement of which is guaranteed by the contraction of the muscles, for it is not pumped by the heart contrary to the blood.

The main role of the lymphatic system is the drainage of excess liquids in the various tissues of the cops to facilitate their evacuation. Knowing that most organs of the lymphatic system are located on the left flank, sleeping on this side would thus facilitate the functions of the latter and thus rid the body of toxins that can accumulate there.

Improves heart health:

The heart is evidently on the left side of our body and by sleeping on this side, we facilitate its operation. Indeed, lying on the left side helps the heart pump blood more easily. This will improve the blood circulation and promote the irrigation of the various organs and tissues of the body.
