The Worst Day To Get Married According To Science

When a person falls in love, she seeks by all means to fill the loved one and does everything possible to stay with him. When the decision of the heart is approved by reason, it no longer hesitates to take the step towards a more lasting relationship and to crown this love by marriage. An initiative that triggers a succession of events and requires several decisions, starting with that of the date when the young couple will pass in front of the altar. So find out what a new study reveals about this and its influence on the risks of divorce.

We all know that for a marriage to be successful, the relationship must be built on a solid foundation of love, respect and trust. In addition, both partners must be mature and willing to make efforts and make sacrifices and concessions on their own. However, according to a new scientific study, there is another criterion that has a great influence on the success rate of the relationship: the date of marriage!

Date of marriage and risk of divorce

To determine the risks of divorce related to the date of the marriage, David Ribar and Jan Kabatek, two researchers from the University of Melbourne, spent nearly a million unions with a fine-tooth comb, taking place in the Netherlands between 1999 And 2013. The results of their study revealed that couples who chose to say yes to a symbolic date, such as Valentine's Day, or on special dates (successive, identical ...) such as 1/02 / 03 or 20/10/2010 are more likely to divorce compared to couples who chose more "ordinary" dates.

Very popular, these "special" dates have the advantage of being easy to remember, especially when it comes to not forget to offer a gift to his / her darling on your wedding anniversary. However, contrary to what most people think, they are not "lucky".

The proof: the statistics from this study showed that the risk of divorce during the five years of marriage, 11% of couples who choose symbolic dates end their union, compared with 10% for those who marry Special dates and 8% for unions on normal dates. Not to stop halfway, researchers have extended their analytical work up to 9 years of conjugal life, and the record remains equally negative: a divorce rate of 21% for symbolic dates, 19% for special dates and 16% for regular dates only.

How can we explain this phenomenon?

According to the explanations given by the two authors of this study, the dates in themselves are not the cause of the divorce. Rather, they are the traits and information they reveal about the people who choose them. Thus, couples who would tend to choose these dates would probably have already passed the altar and would probably also have children from their previous union (s), which does not fail to influence the stability Of their current couple.

Moreover, the choice of these dates also reveals significant differences in age and level of education, which can sometimes affect the quality of communication and reduce the compatibility of the couple.

On the other hand, people who choose more ordinary dates seem to be more focused on the specific characteristics of their relationship and make more efforts to preserve and improve their compatibility, thus reducing their risk of ending up in front of a family judge.

Marriage is a decision not to be taken lightly. It is therefore important to choose the person with whom you will spend the rest of your life and to focus on the positive and most important aspects of your relationship. Thus, you will succeed in strengthening your couple and finding happiness.
