A menstrual cycle absent and irregular: Sometimes the menstruation are not always at the rendezvous, they can present themselves a few days in advance or late. In some women, irregular or absent menstrual cycles are caused by external factors other than pregnancy. Taking a medication, changing habits, hormonal disruption or emotions can disrupt the cycle. But when the cycle becomes very irregular or absent for an indefinite period, it may well hide serious diseases, including fibroids, endometriosis, luteal insufficiency, thyroid problem, hypercholesterolemia or a pre-menopause.

Severe pain and cramps: Menstrual pain and menstrual cramps mark the beginning of a menstrual cycle. They can be very painful in some women. These pains are sometimes accompanied by nausea, diarrhea and vomiting. Dysmenorrhea is often referred to as painful menstruation. Contraction of the uterus due to lack of vascularization and excess prostaglandins are the two main causes of these pains. When they become very painful and disabling, they can be signs of endometriosis, benign tumors, ovarian cysts or transmitted infections.

Abnormal bleeding: One woman in five suffers from abnormal uterine bleeding. These bleeding called metrorrhagia occur outside the menstrual cycle. They are very often caused by poor ovulation that causes a hormonal imbalance. Polyps, fibroids, endometritis and adenomyosis can also cause bleeding. This may seem odd, but stress and all other psychological variations can be the cause, as they help to disrupt the hormonal balance and subsequently induce hemorrhage.

Menstruation more abundant than usual: On average, normal menstruation appear after 28 days and last from 3 to 5 days. But these menstrual cycles can vary from one woman to another. If you find that your periods are more abundant and last more than 10 days, it is important to consult a gynecologist. Hormonal disturbance may be the simple cause, but other more serious factors may be involved, such as the use of certain anticoagulant drugs, ectopic pregnancy, contraceptive change, or uterine cancer.

Severe premenstrual syndrome: Premenstrual syndrome or also called PMS is the set of all manifestations that women present in the few days before the onset of their menstruation. Approximately one third of women are affected by this syndrome. Before the period of menstruation, the body prepares to host an embryo but when it changes it can cause the different manifestations felt.

Estrogens are essentially the hormones responsible for this syndrome when they are in excessive amounts compared to progesterone in the second phase of the ovarian cycle. This syndrome is very often accompanied by behavioral and psychological symptoms, such as mood disorders, irritability and decreased performance, caused by serotonin in the brain.

A hormonal imbalance: When the functioning of the hormones is upset, this can have serious consequences on health. The role of hormones is to regulate insulin levels, energy management, body temperature, reproduction, growth, mood, metabolism and many other functions in the human body. In women, hormones are responsible for menstrual cycles.

An unhealthy and stressful lifestyle associated with an unbalanced diet and lack of sleep is the main factor. A hormonal imbalance can also be caused by taking medications used to treat women who suffer from an irregular menstrual cycle or those who receive infertility treatment. Contraceptives and other hormonal supplements may also be involved in a hormonal imbalance. Abnormal weight gain, hair loss, decreased desire, urinary tract infection, are good indicators of imbalance.
