Get Pregnant With Twins Naturally

Pregnancy is a news that fills the couple waiting for joy and happiness. Moreover, some partners prefer to double their dose of cheerfulness and have twins. If you are one of these people, here are some simple and practical tips that will help you increase your chances of achieving your dream of twin pregnancy.

Twin pregnancy is a less common form of pregnancy. In France, one pregnancy out of 80 is twins. This can give life to two types of twins:

The false twins (dizygotic twins), which constitute more than 65% of twin pregnancies, result from the fertilization of two ova by two spermatozoa. Thus, the fetuses each have their own placenta and do not necessarily have the same gender. Twins can usually be easily differentiated.

True twins (monozygotic twins) are the result of the fertilization of a single ovule by a single spermatozoon. This ovule will eventually split in two, after a few days of fertilization, thus giving rise to two fetuses, which have a similar genetic inheritance. The latter are so much alike that it is difficult to distinguish them.

Although it is uncommmon, twin pregnancy can be promoted by different factors. Indeed, from a family history to food to age, some points may increase the chances of getting pregnant with twins, including:

1 - The vitamin B9:

Vitamin B9, or folic acid, is often prescribed to pregnant women as a dietary supplement to prevent fetal malformations of the nervous system. Only, this vitamin also has other effects, when taken before conception, such as increasing the chances of twin pregnancy.

According to a study by Swedish researchers, this vitamin would increase the chances of twins' births. The study was conducted on more than 2,500 women who had folic acid supplementation and highlighted birth rates of twins about twice as high as normal.

2 - Sweet potato or yam:

A diet rich in sweet potato or yam has been linked to higher chances of twin pregnancy. These vegetables concentrate molecules close to estrogen that impact the female menstrual cycle and stimulate ovulation.
Nigeria, which is one of the countries that consumes the most yams, has a large number of twin pregnancies (about 4 times more than in France).

3 - Dairy products:

According to a study published on the site of the Journal of Reproductive Medicine, the consumption of dairy products increase by 5 times the chances of having twins. This is mainly due to the hormone IGF (Insulin-Like Growth Factor) which is synthesized by the liver and ends up in the milk of animals. The latter consumed by women, increases the sensitivity of the ovaries to follicle stimulating hormone (FSH) and thus ovulation.

4 - Age:

As paradoxical as it may seem, getting pregnant at age 35 or more increases the chances of twin pregnancy. Indeed, at this age, women can have several ovulations during certain cycles. A phenomenon known as poly-ovulation and which results in the expulsion of more than one ovum into the uterus. If these eggs are fertilized by spermatozoa, they will give rise to two embryos, either false twins (dizygotic twins).

5 - Family history:

Heredity also has a say in twin pregnancy. Thus, if a person has many false twins in the family but on the side of his / her mother, it is very likely to have them too. Generally, it is the women prone to poly-ovulation who have false twins. And knowing that this phenomenon is transmitted genetically, one can deduce that having dizygotic twins can be hereditary.

6 - The parity:

Among the factors that promote twin pregnancy, there is parity. A woman who has given birth to several children has a much greater chance of getting pregnant with twins.

7 - Stopping oral contraceptive use:

Stopping taking the contraceptive pill before the conception period can increase the chances of twin pregnancy. Indeed, following this judgment, the body tries in all ways to restore the hormonal balance, which can result in the expulsion of more than one egg.
