Advances in screening and treatment have dramatically improved survival rates since 1989. There are about 76% of breast cancer survivors. Certainly, being diagnosed with breast cancer is always a devastating news for a woman and those around her. It may be that some women give up but others fight until their last breath like this brave woman!

Some facts about breast cancer

Here are some key points about breast cancer:

Breast cancer is the most common cancer in women.
Symptoms include a lump or thickening of the breast, and changes in the skin or nipples.

Risk factors may be genetic, but lifestyle factors such as alcohol use make it more likely to occur.

Many breast deformities are not cancerous, but any woman who is worried about a lump in her breast or a change should consult a doctor.

Fighting cancer requires a lot of patience, willingness, and courage, because the psychological side is always very important in the healing process. This woman whose story we will tell you, believed in her chances until the end, and was able to realize her dream: to marry the man of her life!

A marriage in pain

Heather Mosher, from Connecticut, married her husband, David Mosher, a few days before Christmas, for fear that Heather will not reach the ceremony scheduled for December 30.

The wedding photos posted by bridesmaid Christina Karas became viral, and many people were touched by Heather's inspiring approach.

Heather and David met during a dance class in May 2015 and quickly became inseparable.

December 23, 2016 was the day David planned to ask Heather for a wedding, but it was also the day she was diagnosed with breast cancer.

Heather did not know that David was going to marry her that night, but he figured she needed to know that she was not going to make that long drive alone. So he made his request as planned, in the street under a lamppost after a carriage ride.

Five days later, the couple discovered that Heather's cancer was triple negative, which is a rare and aggressive form of the disease. And their life together would soon be disrupted by cancer.

In September 2017, they discovered that the cancer had spread to Heather's brain and, two months later, she was on a drip with a breathing tube.

A beating woman

"It's a tough thing, everyone would have given up a long time ago, the doctors even said they do not know how she's still alive, she proved to everyone that they were wrong." said David.

But with the wedding scheduled for December 30, Heather was desperate to do so. The doctors then recommended the couple to advance the marriage.

David and Heather did not give up their dream of getting married, and celebrated their wedding on December 22 surrounded by family and friends.

The last words Heather would have said were her oath to David, she died on December 23, 18 hours after her wedding.

It was exactly a year to the day since David had made his marriage proposal and Heather had been diagnosed with cancer.

On December 30, the original date of the wedding, David said goodbye to his wife at the funeral that took place at the church where they were to be married.

"She is my great love, and I lost her, but I do not lose her forever," said David. He was inspired by the determination of his wife who said she would continue to fight. The determination of his wife will become for him a motto that he will adopt forever.

Heather's story will inspire more than one person with her will and courage as she fights her cancer to the end. Do not hesitate to share this concrete example of the courage of a woman!
