We all heard about someone who committed suicide, and the question we always ask is why? And even when the reasons are known, one wonders how to have felt so much desperation to end his life! Suicide often causes a feeling of guilt among the family members for not being able to help the person, as was the case with this girl who, after posting a status on a social network, saying goodbye to everyone, was found dead at home!

220,000 suicide attempts are supported each year by emergencies. Suicide particularly affects young people aged 15 to 29, making it the second leading cause of death among young people.

Why commit suicide?

In general, people try to commit suicide for five reasons:

They are depressed: This is undoubtedly the most common reason why people commit suicide. The pain of existence often becomes too apparent for severely depressed people. The depressive state distorts their thinking, which allows ideas like "Everybody would be better without me" to have a rational meaning. They should not be blamed for falling prey to such deformed thoughts, because depression is almost always treatable. Often, people suffer silently, planning suicide without anyone knowing it.

They are psychotic: Psychosis is much more difficult to mask than depression, and it is probably even more tragic. The global incidence of schizophrenia is 1%, often affecting healthy and successful people who are trying to manage their lives better with drug treatments. Schizophrenics are just as likely to speak freely about the voices that command them to commit suicide, and to respond honestly to suicidal thoughts when asked directly. Psychosis too is treatable!

They are impulsive: Often linked to drugs and alcohol, some people become sensitive and impulsively try to end their own lives. Once sober and calmed, they are usually ashamed. Remorse is often sincere, but it is impossible to predict if they will attempt suicide again.

They have a philosophical desire to die: For some, the decision to commit suicide is based on a long reflection, often motivated by the presence of a painful chronic disease of which there is little or no hope of healing. These people are not depressed, psychotic or whiny, they try to take control of their destiny and alleviate their own suffering, which is usually only possible through death. They often consider their choice to commit suicide as a way to shorten a death that will happen anyway.

They ask for help and do not know how to get it: These people are not used to wanting to die, but they want to warn those around them that something is wrong with them. Often, they do not believe that they will die, choosing methods that they do not think are effective to attract the attention of a person who hurts them, but the results are sometimes tragic.

In the story that follows, a girl was found dead in her apartment after she posted on a social network that she was going out. Although the investigations continue, the police are leaning towards suicide.

A tragic end

Mollie Horton, 22, is a young mother of a 3-year-old girl named Lilli who lives in Howarth Close, Milford Haven. Her family and friends did not believe the sad news because Mollie was known to be a person full of energy and joy.

A few days before her death, Mollie had posted a photo of her on social networks saying "Good night everyone, I'm off." In the picture, there was a filter on top with angel wings.

After this message, some friends worried and called the police to warn them. Unfortunately, when the police moved, the young woman had already died. Dozens of tributes were paid to Mollie Horton, who seemed well liked by her friends.

The police think she was able to say goodbye to all her relatives, through her publication just before committing suicide. Although few details were disclosed about the young woman's death, the investigators said the case is not treated suspiciously.

An investigation is still ongoing, and the police are waiting for the autopsy reports to see how it will proceed!

It is important to stay alert especially when you have people around you who are showing signs of distress. Several clues can warn about a suicide attempt including words, behaviors or emotions ...
