Pay Attention To Dafalgan, Efferalgan And Doliprane

Paracetamol has become an essential medicine in homes, adults and children take the least harm, but is it safe? It turns out no. New scientific study published in Annals of the Rheumatic Diseases suggests that there is a link between long-term use of analgesics and increased risk of stroke, kidney failure and gastrointestinal bleeding .

Paracetamol is used by millions of people every day to fight a battery of diseases including headaches, backaches and fever. Professor Philip Conaghan, of the Institute of Rheumatic and Musculoskeletal Medicine, Leeds, London, said people should exercise caution when taking high-dose pain medications for an extended period.

Overview of the research carried out

Researchers have undertaken numerous tests to evaluate the link between frequent use of paracetamol and its side effects in adults.

The analgesic properties of paracetamol have been particularly questionable in the management of acute low back pain and disabling osteoarthritis.
  • 8 examinations have shown a correlation between a high mortality rate and a high consumption of paracetamol, by comparing patients who had been prescribed paracetamol and those who had not.
  • 4 reviews showed a link between paracetamol use and increased risk of cardiovascular problems.
  • 4 examinations also linked prolonged consumption of paracetamol with a decrease in the filtration rate of the kidneys.
  • Another review found a higher rate of gastric distress in people taking high doses of painkillers.

Professor Conaghan's study, published in the Annals of the Rheumatic Diseases, stated that the data presented above show that the negative effects of excessive consumption of these drugs are underestimated in the clinical community. He added that the prescription and the free sale of paracetamol must take into account the results of these observation examinations.
