In young children who have not yet learned to speak clearly, the method of expressing feelings and desires is through laughter, smiles, shouting or crying. In the majority of cases, parents are able to understand this way of communicating with children, but in some cases, it is difficult to decipher everything, as evidenced by the story of this mother with her 2-year-old son.

Communication of babies

Babies are great communicators. When they want to tell you something, they usually do it with tears, to let people know that they are hungry, cold, need to be changed, etc.

Crying is the first real attempt to communicate a baby with his parents. As exhausting and frustrating as it may be, it is the first mode of communication while waiting to be able to pronounce words. Since babies are all different and react differently to situations, it is up to parents to be attentive to the signals sent by their little ones in order to provide for their needs and to be able to appease them quickly.

In the case of a lack of understanding of the clues by the parents, the negative effects on their babies can be considerable and thus affect their well-being. And the story that we present to you is a perfect example.

A child in pain

A mother from Farsley, West Yorkshire, England, recounted her horror after discovering the real reason her two-year-old son suffered from chronic discomfort and temper tantrums when traveling by car.

The mother of six, Nichola Griffiths thought her baby was sick. She was nervous with the tantrums of Max, her 2-year-old child, every time he was tied to his car seat.

The boy was fighting and struggling as soon as his mother sat in his car seat and screamed and cried on every car trip, until he became ill and suffered from vomiting.

Nichola and her husband, Nigel, thought he might have health problems, but they were horrified when they put the young Max on the seat without a T-shirt and found a red mark on his skin.

Nigel explained that they had attached Max to his seat without a T-shirt because of the hot weather. When they pulled him out, they could see the big red mark on his spine, and they only saw him because Max was shirtless, because he usually did not have a mark on his clothes.

Temper tantrum

Both parents thought it was a bee sting at first, but there was no bee in the car. Then the family inspected the car seat Max had been using for 18 months and found a hard plastic tip hidden under the fabric that stitched their son into the spine all the time.

A whole family affected

Nichola said she felt bad about thinking about it because it affected her a lot emotionally. Her child was in fact exposed to pain when she was not aware of it.

The shocked family made contact with the retailer and after waiting two weeks for an answer, they went straight to the manufacturer.

The company responded immediately to the family, asked them to send the seat for review, and sent a replacement seat to the family for use in the meantime.

After that, Nichola said that since they started using another seat, Max feels better and loves driving.

The company that made the faulty car seat examined it and agreed that there was a problem. She told the family that this was an isolated case and that she had removed the crampon so that the seat could be reused and returned it to Nichola and Nigel.

But now, Nichola said she no longer trusted the company and did not think she would use her products again.

The story of Nichola and her son Max is a call to all parents to watch the signals sent by their children, and to be vigilant about everything they can offer their children, be it seats, beds, clothes or toys. They should always be checked for fear of containing items that may be harmful to the child's health.
