A Dad Lets His Teenage Son Sleep At A Friend's House. A Few Hours Later, He Receives This Disturbing Message

Adolescence is known as a difficult time for most young people. The difficulty comes from the fact that they discover the world around them, the drives, the pleasures and can easily get carried away in addictions of any kind. Several specialists have looked into the subject to find tips to better support and educate young adolescents. Discover the great idea that this father of three has had and that has allowed him both to protect his teens, while not interfering in their privacy.

During adolescence, young people tend to be rebellious and do not like being interested in their lives. However, not yet accustomed to adult life, they can end up in dangerous situations. Many parents are helpless in these situations. To avoid this and help your teens spend this time of their lives without too much damage, here is a simple plan that you can put in place in your family.

The X plane

This innovative tool was created by Bert Fulks, a teacher who shares ideas and tips on parenting. Mr. Bert works with children who are undergoing addiction treatment. This father of three is learning a great deal from his work with these children who are trying to overcome their addictions, and he is quickly applying these lessons to his own day-to-day parenting responsibilities.

While Bert was in contact with the children in his class, he asked them how they behaved when they found themselves in circumstances where their lives were in danger. All responded that they did not have a solution. Bert realized that children needed a way out if they did.

In order to develop his plan, he decided to apply a rule with his own children inspired by the code words that some bars use to help women in difficulty. Bert gave his children a secret text message that they could send him, if they needed to get out of a bad situation quickly.

How it works ?

The operation of the X plane according to Bert is simple. Whenever his own children have to go to a friend's house or party, they have a special code to get them out as quickly as possible if they need them. He uses a text exchange with his younger son, Danny, as an example.

After allowing his son to sleep at a friend's house, Bert reminds him to be good. His son replies, "I know. Thank you. Then, later in the night, Danny sends another message to his father with the single letter "X". The letter "X" is the codeword agreed by the Bert family.

As soon as the father saw this SMS, he knew that his son had to leave his friend's house immediately. This message can be sent to everyone in the family (mother, older brother or older sister). Whoever receives the text has a very basic script to follow.

Taking the example of his son, Bert calls him within minutes and the conversation is as follows:

Danny: "Hello?"

Bert: "Danny, something has happened and I have to come get you right now. "

Danny: "What happened?"

Bert "I'll tell you when I'll be there. Get ready to leave in five minutes. I am on my way. "

At this point, Danny tells his friends that something has happened at home, and that someone comes looking for him and he has to leave.

Sending an anonymous text that looks like a typo is the best way to discreetly warn parents that something is wrong and get an immediate exit plan.

Bert also insists that the plan is designed as a safety measure and that children do not have to explain the situation in detail to their parents.

With such a plan, if a child does not feel comfortable or realizes that the situation is out of control, he will always feel comfortable getting help from one of his parents .

If you want to help your teenagers better, you can take inspiration from Plan X and adapt it to your family.
