Although the basic diet needs to be balanced and varied, some people are forced to follow a particular diet. It is seen especially in individuals suffering from heart diseases, diabetes, severe digestive disorders or in the elderly facing malnutrition. Moreover, special brioche bread has been designed to address this public health problem. Explanations.

Among the people who are likely to suffer more from diseases are the elderly. The latter are more vulnerable and may develop rheumatological, oral, ocular or heart diseases. And, these health disorders have particularly harmful consequences on the body of the elderly person, including undernutrition.

Undernutrition among seniors
Little known to the general public, malnutrition is often associated with developing countries. However, this condition, which results from a deficit between nutritional intake and the needs of the body, also affects adults, children and elderly people in developed countries with a prevalence of 5 to 10% in Europe, according to a report from the French National Health Nutrition Program. Note that according to statistics from the French National Institute of Statistics and Economic Studies (INSEE), undernutrition will affect, in seniors over 75, one in five people by 2050.

Thus, undernutrition of the elderly is a real public health problem; especially when we know its causes and consequences.

There are several causes that can explain undernutrition such as: diseases, drugs, feelings of isolation, depression, stress, motor and coordination disorders, chewing problems, digestive disorders, low income , unbalanced diet, lack of help for meals or after a surgical operation. In the long term, this lack of balance between nutritional intake and the needs of the body causes a loss of muscle, disorders of healing, an alteration of the immune system and functions of the body, a decrease in autonomy, a treatment intolerance, neurological disorders, increased risk of serious illness or even death.

It is therefore necessary to prevent and treat this disease, so that the elderly do not suffer (or more) from such consequences. Currently, treatments depend on the severity of undernutrition - mild to moderate or severe - as well as the patient's ability to feed himself orally. If this is the case and initially, oral nutritional supplements will be prescribed. Among them, there is now brioche bread or G-NUTRITION bread.

G-NUTRITION bread, quèsaco?

As part of the Dietary Foods for Special Medical Purposes (ADDFMS), the brioche G-NUTRITION was developed, after ten years of research, by the group Dijon Cereals; in the case of undernutrition in the elderly and to allow them to diversify their oral nutritional supplements. It is a hyperprotid food, hypercaloric and hyperenergetic given its protein content (20.6 g per 100g), carbohydrates (23g), fiber (7.8) and vitamins, minerals and trace elements. Among these are vitamins D, B1, B2, B6, B9 and B12, calcium, magnesium, phosphorus and iron and zinc. All of these ingredients promote, among other things, the recovery of muscle mass, cell growth, renewal of blood cells, improvement of the immune system and the proper functioning of the nervous system.

The brioche bread G-NUTRITION is thus intended to improve the daily life and the health of the malnourished people. With this in mind, it was the subject of a decree of July 9, 2018 allowing it to be part of food and products reimbursed by the Social Security until July 31, 2023.
