The Second Child Is Most Likely To Be The Rebel Family According To A Study

Parents with more than two children know very well how each of them has a place of its own and has its own character and temperament. But it turns out that the place we occupy in a sibling also has a role to play in the way we manage the relationship with the rest of the family. A new study just confirms this by telling us that the second child is destined to be the most rebellious of all.

Yes yes you read correctly! One study was able to confirm that the younger is destined to be more rebellious and agitated than his other siblings.

Occupying second place would entail risks
We have all heard one day or another about the birth order that elders are absolutely stubborn, cranky and arrogant, in addition to being very often rotten spoiled. Children born in the middle meanwhile, would act in a certain way because they feel ignored.

It is certainly not something positive, but it turns out that according to a research report published during the year 2017, in the middle of these preconceived ideas we can find some that are true, at least when it comes to understanding the motivations that push these children to act in this way.

After relying on information collected from thousands of families in Florida and Denmark, a team of researchers led by MIT economist Joseph Doyle, compared the risks that every child in a sibling family has of sinking in delinquency. It seems, therefore, that in families where there are two or more children, the second is between 25% and 40% more likely than his older brother to have school problems or to be involved in crime and to serve his sentence. The birth order may seem arbitrary, but it turns out that it is obviously more important than we think.

In search of logical arguments that would hide behind such a difference

The researchers in charge of the study then went in search of logical explanations for such a conclusion. Thus, they mentioned in the report the possibility that this is due to health problems, especially since a mother is older when she gives birth to her second child. But after checking the different data of these children, they noticed that the cadets did not have worse health than their siblings. They also exclude the probability that this is explained by the fact that parents invest less in their education since these children are fluent in preschool.

They suddenly realized that there was one last explanation which was, for its part, the most plausible. It is that of the attention of the parents, the researchers have therefore made the deduction that as the elders constantly have all the attention of their parents until the arrival of another baby. But from the birth of this second child, the parents' attention and their time are systematically divided in two. The eldest is certainly affected by this change, but he has already taken advantage of his parents alone for a considerable period. This is not the case for children who come after and who have to live in a home from the start where they share their parents' attention with someone else.

Different experiences
We must also take into consideration the fact that seniors come into the world and have mature adults as role models. The children who come after, on the other hand, grow up imitating and learning from the behavior of their older brothers and sisters. These are generally not known to be the most posed or the most rational.

This does not mean, however, that elders have everything for themselves and that others are content with leftovers. This study has just highlighted a minor impact that this parameter may have on an individual's life. But she has also shown that there is no effect on the personality or intelligence of this same person. The fact of being the youngest one just means in short that you had a different course marked by an interesting phase of rebellion and stories as incredible as each other.
