The fact of farting remains in all circumstances an act very often frowned upon and very little appreciated, especially when an unpleasant smell emerges. But there is a study that can change our view of the issue a little bit and that tells us that feeling the smell of a fart can have more of a benefit, or even increase our longevity. .

What could make a fart beneficial for us?
In addition to the stench of a fart, there is something else in this gas emanation that has been of great interest to researchers at Exeter University in England. They have discovered that a fart contains hydrogen sulfide, a substance certainly toxic in large quantities especially for the respiratory system and nephews, but very beneficial in small doses.

The study was published in the Journal Medicinal Chemistry Communications was designed to analyze the effect that hydrogen sulfide could have on the human body after exposure to a small amount of this substance. The researchers even came to the conclusion that this gas, in small doses, could prevent mitochondrial damage, an effect that generates many other benefits to the body.

One of the leading scientists in the study, Mark Wood says that the substance in the gases emanating from rotten eggs and farts was certainly nauseating but that it reserved its share of benefits for our health. These benefits include mitigating the risk of life-threatening diseases such as cancer, heart attacks or strokes. But it has also been proven that hydrogen sulfide prevents certain conditions such as arthritis and dementia in the elderly.

How does hydrogen sulfide affect our body?
As part of this research, the experts eventually came up with a formula called AP39, which is supposed to ensure that our body absorbs the right amount of hydrogen sulfide. They think that AP39 can be the basis of future therapies in this direction. But in order to know how such a compound can act on our body, we must first understand how the human body reacts to different diseases at the microbial scale.

When our cells are put under stress by any disease, they proceed to the absorption of certain enzymes in order to produce doses of hydrogen sulphide in the body. Such a reaction allows the maintenance of mitochondria which are in fact organelles having the task of regulating the cell cycle of the whole organism. And if it ever happens that this process ends, cells eventually die and become unable to control the course of inflammation and its symptoms.

The same research has shown that administering AP39 to mitochondria under critical conditions can keep up to 80% alive. Other primary findings were that the same compound helped to stabilize blood pressure and significantly reduce the risk of death from a heart attack by slowing the cardiac activity of the affected person.

The direct relationship between our diet and a pronounced odor of gases
As the smell of a fart comes directly from the fermentation process of certain foods, it is quite logical that the concentration of gas, and therefore the smell, depends essentially on what you eat. According to scientists, it is above all foods with high concentration of sulfur compounds that some farts are more fragrant than others, so they quote the meat, eggs, poultry, garlic, onions and some cruciferous vegetables such as Brussels sprouts, cabbage, cauliflower or broccoli.

It should also be remembered that the production of additional gases can result from the poor digestion of certain foods, especially those containing a particular type of carbohydrate known in the scientific world by "FODMAP" which means "Fermentable, oligomeric di-monosaccharides and polyols ". Onions, garlic, asparagus, milk, yoghurt, high-fructose fruits and their juices all fall into this category identified by experts in the food field and can therefore be the cause of an increase in the production of gas in the intestines. This is because these foods are usually poorly digested by the small intestine, so the large intestine has more food waste to manage and this is where the gases are created.

There is one last parameter to consider in this regard is the state of the digestive system of a person, because a person who has no problem at this level will experience only a slight increase in gas production. while another having an intolerance vis-à-vis certain foods will have more trouble digesting them and therefore more gas, even bloating and pain.
