It's Proven ! Coca Sweeteners Are Toxic To The Intestine

Research suggests that artificial sweeteners found in Coca Light and other non-alcoholic beverages may damage intestinal bacteria. Six more specific sweeteners, including controversial aspartame - all approved for use in food and beverages in the United States and the European Union - are toxic to the intestinal flora, and can be detrimental to health.

A study was conducted by a team from Ben Gurion University in Negev, Israel, and Singapore's Nanyang Technological University to analyze aspartame, sucralose, saccharin, neotame, advantam, and acesulfame potassium-k.

We all know that a healthy gut microbiome is linked to the good functioning of the body, from the improvement of hormonal regulation to the absorption of nutrients, through digestion and the functioning of the immune system.

In their research, scientists discovered that toxins are released when intestinal bacteria are exposed to artificial sweeteners. It only takes one mg / ml of artificial sweeteners to make the bacteria poisonous. Therefore, the higher the amount of sweetener, the greater the number of toxins released.

Ariel Kushmaro, professor who runs the study says, "This is further evidence that the consumption of artificial sweeteners negatively affects the microbial activity of the gut which can cause a wide range of health problems." He also adds, "The results of this study could help to understand the relative toxicity of artificial sweeteners and the potential negative effects on the intestinal microbial community. "

Light drinks make up a quarter of the sweet drinks market, but it is becoming increasingly clear that they are not as healthy as previously thought. Although marketed as an alternative to food-safe beverages, scientists confirm that they should no longer be considered as such.

Recall that artificial sweeteners have often been associated with obesity, cancer, type 2 diabetes, migraines and even liver toxicity. They are also considered environmental pollutants because of their resistance to wastewater treatment processes.

Professor Kushmaro added that the results could also contribute to the detection of the damage caused by artificial sweeteners to the environment.

Having a sweetening power 200 times greater than that of saccarose, aspartame is composed of two natural amino acids, L-aspartic acid and L-phenylalanine, the latter is in the form of methyl ester. It is present in many low-calorie, sugar-free foods and beverages, such as soft drinks, non-alcoholic powdered drinks, chewing gum, dessert mixes, puddings and toppings, and certain vitamins and candy without sugar.

This food additive consumed by more than 200 million people worldwide and is found in more than 6,000 products, it was reported in 2015.

What are the fears?

Diabetes and obesity
A study published in April 2018 by the Medical College of Wisconsin and Marquette University associates artificial sweeteners with obesity and audiabetes, claiming that these alter the way the body processes fats and uses energy.

Indeed, after tests performed on rats having had a diet rich in aspartame, acesulfame, and potassium, they showed significant concentrations of biochemicals, fats and amino acids in their blood.

Tim Spector, an expert in the intestinal microbiome and a professor of genetic epidemiology at King's College, London, says that high consumption of sweeteners reduces the diversity of good bacteria and produces abnormal chemical reactions that can lead to weight gain or diabetes.

Stroke and dementia
A study conducted at Boston University found that daily consumption of dietary drinks would increase the risk of having a stroke or dementia by more than 30%.
