How To Reverse Type 2 Diabetes Naturally

The control of blood sugar is done in the human body, through insulin (a hormone secreted by the pancreas). It allows the entry of sugar into the cells so that it is used as fuel, especially in those of muscles and liver. The body of individuals with type 2 diabetes is unable to regulate blood sugar, the blood glucose level rises, it is called hyperglycemia. In the long term, this can be problematic, and can lead to serious cardiovascular complications. Here are some tips from our English colleagues from the journal Diabetes to reverse your type 2 diabetes naturally.

Diabetes, a chronic disease to watch out for

Inverting diabetes is a term that generally refers to a significant long-term improvement in insulin sensitivity in people with type 2 diabetes. The HbA1c threshold for the diagnosis of diabetes was set by a committee of expert at 6.5% (48 mmol / mol), thus persons with type 2 diabetes who can obtain an HbA1c level of less than 42 mmol / mol (6%) without taking antidiabetic drugs are considered to have reversed or resolved their diabetes. Note that weight loss is especially beneficial to help reverse the progression of diabetes. With time and dedication, type 2 diabetes can be reversed and the results can be impressive.

You should know that the most common cause of type 2 diabetes is obesity. When an individual follows a high calorie diet, especially if it contains a lot of refined sugars, insulin levels in the blood increase to cope with the high and fast consumption of carbohydrates. However, constantly high blood sugar levels cause insulin resistance to the cells and lead to weight gain. In fact, it is a vicious circle, High insulin levels cause a feeling of lethargy and lead to increased hunger. In the same way, overeating, lack of physical activity and high sugar levels promote weight gain and increased resistance to insulin.

A diet beneficial for diabetics

A study published in 2014 by the Second University of Naples showed that a low carbohydrate Mediterranean diet achieved significant remission rates in people with type 2 diabetes. After one year of diet, 15% participants were able to reverse their diabetes. In contrast, the study found that low fat diets were not as effective. After one year, only 4% of participants on a low fat diet had achieved remission.

The idea of the "ketogenic" diet thus starts from this observation, the principle being to continue to consume fats but to limit or eliminate the consumption of sugars. Here is an example of a ketogenic diet:
