The sinuses are small bone cavities located at the level of the nasal cavities. They humidify the air that is breathed and retain certain pathogenic factors in thick mucus. When filled with this mucus, they are painful, cause headaches, cough and a very unpleasant sensation of blocked nose. This is called sinusitis, it is treated according to the causes and the duration of the treatment can vary.

Sinus Infection

Most often, the symptoms of sinusitis tend to get worse in the week following infection. The most frequent are headaches, nasal congestion, sore throat accompanied by a feeling of discomfort flowing back of the nose down into the throat, fever, loss of smell and discomfort respiratory.

There are two types of sinusitis, acute sinusitis which lasts less than a month and which usually triggers after a cold; And chronic sinusitis which is most often caused by allergies, asthma, tobacco or polyps in the nostrils.

Rest is recommended and a good night's sleep should be preferred because a weakened body may prolong the duration of sinus infection. The ideal is to rest at least twenty-four hours in a row and to sleep the head slightly elevated relative to the body in order to facilitate the drainage of the mucus and to relieve the sensation of blocked nose.

It is also important to hydrate well because drinking a lot helps to fluidify the secretions and to alleviate the obstruction of the nasal cavities. The best is to drink water and infusions as well as soups and broths.

To help relieve nasal congestion, we offer you a simple and effective method that will quickly alleviate the pain. This is the neti pot that cleans your sinuses in case of sinusitis, cold or allergy.

How to use the neti pot?

The pot of neti is a small container made up of a pouring spout that makes it possible to irrigate the nose and eliminate the mucus and thus reduce the pressure and relieve the congestion.

Originally used in Asia, it is native to India where it is commonly used in Ayurvedic medicine. In Sanskrit, neti means cleansing the nose, it is a washing of the nose with warm salt water.

The neti pot can be used to unclog the nose, relieve sinus infections, reduce snoring, or simply clean the nose on awakening or in the evening before bedtime.

Ingredients:
  • A quarter teaspoon of organic non-iodized salt / or half a teaspoon of coarse salt
  • 500 milliliters of warm water
Preparation:

The use of the neti pot is simple, just clean it with boiling water before using it then put the salt in the pot, dissolve it with a little hot water then add water Warm and mix well to obtain a homogeneous liquid whose temperature approaches that of the body.

It is imperative not to use untreated tap water, it must be filtered, and not to use table salt whose additives can irritate the nose.

Stand over a sink or tub and place the spout in a nostril; Breathe through the mouth to prevent water from entering your throat. Lean a little forward, tilt the head to the side and lift the pot so that the water reaches through the upper nostril before going out through the lower nostril. When half the liquid has been used, take a break to blow your nose and place the beak in the other nostril and repeat the operation. Once you have used all the liquid, gently breathe to remove any excess water and empty your nose.

Then clean your pot with soap and warm water and let it dry in the open air. This will prevent bacteria from proliferating inside.
To complete this wash and maximize its effectiveness, lean forward to touch your feet with your hands and hold this position for ten seconds before you straighten. This will help to drain water that may have remained in the sinuses.

Regular use of the pot neti facilitates breathing through the nose and quickly relieves sinus infections that tend to be very restrictive. This practice moistens and heats the air that is inspired by the nose. Ayurvedic medicine recommends daily use.
