Abortion In 3 Minutes And Why You Have Probably Never Heard Of It

A subject as delicate and controversial as that of abortion deserves a little bit to be studied on a case-by-case basis and with great caution. It is already a rather difficult phase to manage emotionally for the women who live it, having for each of them, their own reasons.

Knowing being pregnant is not always good news, nor an expected or desired event.

inadequate social and professional life with the arrival of a new life, is one of the first factors that can provoke the wish for a termination of pregnancy, even if we can also talk about spontaneous abortion, which by definition is the death or unwanted expulsion from the maternal organism of an embryo or fetus of less than 500 grams or less than 22 weeks of amenorrhea.

Abortion in numbers

WHO, the World Health Organization, publishes regular reports on so-called voluntary or induced abortions around the world. In 2008, about one in five pregnancies would have been voluntarily interrupted. There are now 28 abortions for a panel of 1000 women. In France, 220,000 voluntary abortions (abortions) occur each year.

Abortion is not legally allowed anywhere in the world. According to the Center for Reproductive Rights organization, more than 60% of the world's population lives in countries where abortion is allowed with or without restrictions. About 26% of the population, on the contrary, lives in areas of the world where this act is prohibited although it is allowed if, for medical reasons, the life of the woman is in danger.

Various methods

The two techniques used for decades to cause a voluntary termination of pregnancy is the drug method and the surgical one where it is possible to be anesthetized locally or generally.

The voluntary termination of drug pregnancy is based on taking medication that can be used up to 9 weeks of amenorrhea, leading to the termination of pregnancy and the expulsion of the embryo.

But most abortions in the world are performed by the surgical method to a gestational stage of 12 to 14 weeks of amenorrhea, sucking the contents of the uterus after dilatation of the cervix of it. It can be performed by local anesthesia or by general anesthesia, and the procedure usually takes place in ambulatory hospitalization.

A little known method

Another much less known and less used method was developed by Dr. Joan Fleischman, a graduate of Harvard Medical Scool University. This other method, or rather "revolutionary" device that appeared in 2011, is better known as SofTouch. It is a device that can perform a non-surgical abortion in 2 to 10 minutes and can be performed directly in a medical office rather than in a clinic or hospital and up to 10 amenorrhea weeks. The tip of a small flexible tube the width of a pencil is introduced into the cervix and by applying a slight pressure, expels the embryo. This method does not require surgery or curettage and does not have any impact on fertility.

This technique, quite controversial and more inclined to develop and increase the controversy related to abortion, is rather disparaged by health organizations because of its innovative character on the one hand and on the other hand, on the effect of "trivialization Abortion, which for the human being is an act rather taboo, even indecent according to the level of perception of this subject. This technique would not really promote an environment or even a more adequate atmosphere for the already heavy act of abortion.

This act is neither easy nor innocuous and deserves just as much, a careful reflection, as taking initiative upstream by the establishment of a contraceptive system to prevent an unwanted pregnancy. This event, whether natural or provoked can be more or less poignant, even heartbreaking for some women and can leave a feeling of guilt and regret hence the need for psychological follow-up for those who feel the need .
